Privacy policy
TaxQuarters is built so your tax figures never leave your device. Our tools calculate entirely in your browser. This page explains the little we do collect (mainly: your email address, only if you choose to sign up for deadline reminders) and your rights over it.
Who we are
TaxQuarters is operated by Ascensial Ltd (company number 16089646), registered in England and Wales. Registered office: 124 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX. Ascensial Ltd is the data controller for this site. Contact hello@taxquarters.co.uk.
Ascensial Ltd is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office under registration reference ZC193611.
What we collect, and why
The tools themselves collect nothing
Everything you type into a TaxQuarters calculator (income figures, dates, wave, results) is calculated in your browser and is never sent to us. Closing the tab clears what you typed. The only things a tool remembers between visits are the browser-only items described below, and they never leave your device.
Your income type preference
If you choose an income type (sole trader, landlord, or both) in one of our tools, we store that choice in your browser's local storage so our other tools can preselect it. It never leaves your browser. Clearing your browser data removes it.
Your Software Chooser progress
The Software Chooser also remembers your answers (VAT status, bank, record-keeping style, income sources, budget, and whether you have an accountant) in your browser's local storage, so if you come back you don't have to answer everything again. You still see and step through each question; nothing is skipped. It never leaves your browser. "Start again" on the tool, or clearing your browser data, removes it.
Your Start Date Checker result
If the Start Date Checker tells you when you must start MTD, we store that start year (and nothing else: no income figures) in your browser's local storage, so the Deadline Calculator can preselect it for you. It never leaves your browser. Running the checker again updates or removes it to match your newest result; "Start again" on the tool, or clearing your browser data, also removes it.
If you sign up for deadline reminders
If you choose to enter your email address, we'll send your email address, your MTD wave (1, 2 or 3) and your quarter basis (standard or calendar) to our email provider, MailerLite. We never send the income figures or dates you entered into a tool; reminders are matched to your situation using only the wave and quarter basis. You'll confirm your subscription by clicking a link in a confirmation email (double opt-in) before you receive anything else, and every reminder email will include a one-click unsubscribe link.
Site usage
Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, keeps standard technical logs (for example, IP address) for security and performance. This is already active, as it is for any hosted website. If Google Analytics is enabled on this site, it helps us understand overall site usage (pages visited, approximate location, browser type). We never set an analytics cookie unless you agree to it: see Cookies, below, for how that consent works and how to change your mind.
Legal basis
- Deadline reminder emails: your consent, given when you sign up. Withdraw it any time by unsubscribing.
- Basic hosting and security logs: our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure and running properly.
- Site-usage analytics: your consent, requested when we switch this on (see Cookies, below).
Who we share data with
- MailerLite (our email provider), only if you sign up for reminders. MailerLite is based in the EU (Lithuania), with UK and EEA customers served by MailerLite Limited, registered in Ireland; data is hosted in EU data centres (Germany and the Netherlands). Transfers from the UK to the EU are covered by the UK's data-protection adequacy regulations for the EEA, so no extra safeguards are needed. See MailerLite's own privacy policy.
- Cloudflare: our hosting provider, for standard technical and security logs.
- Google Analytics: only if you've given consent through the on-site banner, for aggregated site-usage statistics. See Cookies, below.
We never sell your data, and we never share it with software vendors or affiliate partners.
How long we keep it
Email addresses are kept for as long as you're subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we keep a record of your email on a suppression list rather than deleting it straight away (this is what stops you being re-added by mistake) for as long as we run this reminder service. If you'd rather we erased your email completely instead, see Your rights, below.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to: access the data we hold about you; have it corrected; ask us to delete it; restrict or object to how we use it; and take it elsewhere (portability). Email hello@taxquarters.co.uk and we'll act on it. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office if you think we've got something wrong.
Cookies
We don't use marketing or advertising cookies. If Google Analytics is enabled on this site, a banner asks for your consent before anything loads: we never set an analytics cookie unless you accept, and declining, or not choosing, means no Google Analytics activity at all. Whichever you choose, we remember the choice itself in your browser's local storage (a small record of accept or decline, with the date you chose) so that we don't ask you on every page. That record never leaves your browser; we ask again after 12 months, and clearing your browser data removes it, in which case the banner will ask again. If you accept, Google Analytics (GA4) sets two cookies on your device, both starting with _ga, to distinguish visitors and track your current visit; it measures page views only. Google's own signal-sharing and ad-personalisation features are switched off, and we never send Google your name or email address. Change your mind at any time with the "Cookie choices" link in the site footer, which reopens the banner and lets you switch your decision. If we introduce display advertising in future, the same approach applies: this policy will be updated first and consent requested where required.
Children
TaxQuarters is aimed at adults running a business or letting property, and isn't directed at children. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
Changes to this policy
We'll update the "last reviewed" date below whenever this policy changes, and note anything material on this page.
